Our history
A family business that has stood the test of time – M Hackett Partners
M Hackett Partners began in 1959 when young Brisbane accountant John Hackett moved to take up a job opportunity in Ingham, North Queensland. John settled in Ingham and commenced working for B J Carey Accountants. Due to his resourcefulness and willingness to learn, Brian Carey admitted John as an equal partner in 1960 and the business became Carey and Hackett.
Over the next decade the business grew as they opened a branch office in Winton servicing Western Queensland as far as Mt Isa. John also married and he and his wife, Anne had 4 children.
In 1973, John and Anne decided to return to Brisbane and acquired the firm P H Booth from Phillip Booth and merged it with his existing practice to create Hackett, Booth and Associates.
In 1988, John’s son Michael joined the firm becoming a partner in 1997 and John became a consultant before fully retiring in 2000. The firm became known as Hacketts Chartered Accountants.
Hacketts Chartered Accountants grew to a four partner firm with 40 staff with offices in Brisbane and Rockhampton. In 2008, Michael decided that he wanted to focus on personal service and advice to his clients and started the boutique Chartered Accounting firm of M Hackett Partners.
The practice not only continues the family tradition, but seeks to provide the expertise and technical infrastructure of a contemporary accounting firm, while maintaining the traditional values of personalised service and advice.
